Pros

Free snacks and sodas, flexibility on working hours, and they're pretty open to listening to employees on their suggestions or pet projects. There are many fun and engaging activities throughout the year.

Cons

All o f the pros are part of a facade of being one of the big boys like Microsoft or Amazon. There are plenty of fringe benefits to lure good employees, however, once you're in you're just another drone. The company treats all of it's sales people like VIPs to a certain degree and will make decisions that act against their own best interest in order to appease their desires. However, other departments have to beg to get any spending money on necessary tools of the trade. To further add to working here, there is a hyper-focus on their ONE product data-v, which was really cool when they announced it, but has been passed by because of the company's aversion to investing in R&D. They're sitting on stagnant software, while their pillar that keeps the lights on (windows licensing) is going away due to changes in how that is sold by Microsoft. There does not appear to be any other fresh ideas on the horizon. Further, the board of directors has too much of a hand in day-to-day dealings. While they may have a right to have a say in how the company runs at a high level, allowing that much granularity to the roll is troublesome when they don't see the everyday dealings and can impact the company majorly when they do things. There isn't much room for growth, and it appears that the only way to get ahead is to work 150% and then threaten to leave if you don't get more money. All raises and promotions, even in title only, have to be approved by the board of directors and these are rare. And every now and then they choose to layoff hardworking employees, seemingly randomly.

Thank you! We implemented our Work Anywhere policy in early 2020 and it was well received. And one of our leadership teams’ goals is to be transparent with our team members on all aspects of the state of the business. We are glad to hear that is being felt throughout the company.

Pros

I worked at Bsquare for over 9 years and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. There are all sorts of personalities and styles through the company but what unites everyone is the desire to implement embedded & IoT technologies. If you're interested at all in those areas you should give Bsquare a look. My favorite parts of working for Bsquare: 1. Great company culture and super intelligent workforce. 2. Nice giveaways like free Pop/Coffee and weekly fruit supply. 3. New technology everywhere always. 4. Serious stability with plenty of cash in the bank to weather even the worst of storms. 5. Exciting development in the products area with DataV.

Cons

I can't think of too many bad things to say about Bsquare. Like a lot of technology companies in the IoT space they're working hard on new initiatives to drive revenue and provide customers with better access to knowledge from their data. If you're not interested in an agile approach to new business areas and development this might not be the place for you. But if you like the stability of a medium sized company partnered with the excitement of new technology initiatives then Bsquare should be at the top of your list.
