Pros

If you like working with Open Source technologies and hate Microsoft, you might like it here. Just be sure you have some other source of income (spouse, parents, other job, etc.) because the pay and benefits here will leave you broke. Also be sure you have access to a good psychologist, you'll need it.

Cons

1) Travel: They have customers in Memphis, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and near the NC coast, but you won't be going there. You'll be going to the smallest of small towns in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas. When you do go, you have to stay for $50 or under a night in a hotel. If you go with more than one person, you have to share a room and you have to keep it under $60 a night. You will also only get $30 a night (per diem) for meals. Trips to Arkansas can last two or more weeks at a time. They also require you to log every minute you are away. That includes every time you stopped to go to the bathroom. 2) How they treat you at the office: You have to "sign in" and "sign out" every time you enter or leave the building, even if you are salaried. They will notice when you check in at 8:01 am, but not a word will be said about working all night. They monitor your every move. This includes what you write in email and/or chat. They have cameras everywhere, including one aimed at the coffee pot in the kitchen. They have a written warning policy and they will "write you up" over the slightest of things. The paperwork that is required is excessive by any standard. 3) Overall morale is extremely low. The cake and ice cream don't really help it that much. 4) A large number of their customers seem to hate BIS and they are not afraid to take it out on you when you call or visit them. 5) If you think that they are going to value you because you stayed while others left, guess again. Everyone is disposable. 6) Lack of professionalism: Most of the people here who quit and give two-weeks notice are fired and escorted from the building the same day that they give the notice. The CEO showing up at your desk to yell at you is not unusual. People are promoted to and demoted from leadership positions at the whim of the CEO. One guy was even demoted so the CEO could hire his brother for a C-Level position. 7) They'll boast at the Christmas party about record profits, but when it is time to consider raises they won't have any money. The health insurance is ridiculous: premiums are sky-high and so are the deductibles, so you basically pay a ton of money for nothing. 8) They like to use contracts and non-compete clauses as a way to make you stay. 9) Several sales people have complained about being cheated out of commissions. There have been multiple lawsuits. 10) Turnover is high.

Pros

I have worked at BIS for over 15 years. They offer us great benefits, a family environment, and a great work/life balance. I have been able to build a career with BIS, rather than just a job.

Cons

Is BIS perfect? No, and if you expect it to be, then you are seriously misguided as no place or person can be perfect. Just like any company, BIS has had its growing pains, as well as ups and downs, but that is what makes us BIS Strong. My advice to those of you looking at the negative reviews, and trying to decide if BIS is the place for you, remember every coin has two sides. Yes, there are negative reviews, but there also positive reviews. Unfortunately, the negative reviews are the ones that are going to stand out the most in your mind, and more than likely influence your decision. Try to be objective, come to an interview, find out for yourself what BIS is like.
