Phone company that has no idea how managed services work - Systems Administrator C Spire Employee Review

Pros

I do get a paycheck.

Cons

Senior management has no idea what my job is or how I do it. Directives coming down from the top are incoherent or simply irrelevant. They apparently come to these decisions via some arbitrary quantitative metrics such as NPS. Middle management is not allowed to make any significant decisions that might mitigate this effect. Options for promotion or career advancement are almost nonexistent. In theory, you have the option to move up once someone above you leaves their position, but somehow most of these positions just remain unfilled indefinitely. Values? If you value responsibility, expect to be responsible for a lot, because most of your coworkers just look for the most expedient excuse to pass the buck to someone else. Work life balance is okay when you're not designated as the "on call" resource, but expect that to happen frequently, since all those unfilled positions shorten the rotation down so much. There's no thought given to whether after-hours work is (a) an emergency or (b) something that can even be fixed when there's no one present at the customer's location.
