Pros

- Talented engineers who are capable and willing to solve difficult problems. - Opportunities to work on interesting technical challenges if you can navigate the leadership structure. - Stability—if you prefer process-heavy environments, you may find it structured and predictable.

Cons

- Leadership lacks the technical depth needed to make informed decisions, leading to poor planning and inefficiency. - Many managers exert authority over technical matters without understanding the work, causing friction and poor decision-making. - The hiring and promotion process favors “leaders of leaders” rather than those with strong technical expertise, compounding the problem. - A culture of misplaced pride in homegrown solutions, even when they are poorly designed or maintained, makes meaningful improvement difficult. - Many long-tenured engineers lack awareness of their own skill gaps, leading to resistance to better solutions and an echo chamber of mediocrity. - Engineers’ insights are often ignored or overridden by leadership focused more on optics and process than real technical quality.

Pros

CHG has been an incredible place to work for the last decade. I have been provided many opportunities to grow and contribute in new ways, There are many thrilling business problems to solve and challenges that keep me engaged and excited to come to work each day. I love the culture, the people I get to work with, the flexibility, the rewarding and meaningful work, and what we are building together.

Cons

I'd love to see a higher 401K match and maybe sabbaticals every 10 years.

Pros

Ability to work from home. OK pay. Mostly great people to work with.

Cons

Used to be a company that never laid people off. Now it seems that every month, some group has layoffs. We are being told that AI won't replace any people, yet people are being laid off and not replaced. Promotions from within are rare. VPs are hired from outside the company. Culture has changed. Bad behavior is tolerated if that person gives good results for the bottom line. Leaders can push to have people in other departments demoted or fired. Many leaders only pay lip service to Work/Life balance. I often take my computer with me on my days off so I can jump on and take care of things. I frequently answer emails and phone calls on days off. Lots of pressure to come into the office to work, even if the rest of your team isn't there. Messaging from management is confusing. We are told that CHG is gaining market share in a difficult market and then told that CHG isn't meeting its goals, so raises will be very small and the bonuses won't be that great. But somehow CHG is doing really well. Skip level 1:1 are a waste of time. I've figured out that if I just get whoever I'm talking to talking about their stuff, I don't actually have to say anything. If I do manage to bring up a concern or ask a question, I'm told that I'm making an interesting point, but I don't get any further information or answers. Basically, CHG has become just like any other corporation.
