Pros

Good company to work for. Rebar is a very challenging trade, to say the least. Benefits are competitive, 401k, stock purchase program, phone, company trucks to use. The office and shop personnel at the fabrication group are great to work with and for. I work M-F and a Saturday once in a blue moon, maybe a couple of weekend phone calls. I have received a raise every year and a bonus every year which is a lot more then I can say for some contractors I have worked for.

Cons

General Contractors don't like you, the concrete contractors you are subbed to don't like you. Nobody gives you any information yet they are mad when the rebar comes out wrong. Engineers constantly making changes which lead to rebar being wrong. Very few successes as far as the projects really making decent profit which is frustrating. Constant phone calls all day long from the field labor sometimes because of shop drawing issues, sometimes because of general laziness, sometimes because the delivery is 30 minutes late.

Pros

1) Current Manager and Dept Head are very supportive with work/life balance. Feel like I can do things outside of work. 2) There are some left in the company with great advice and lessons, have to hunt them down across the company though.

Cons

1) Almost no team oriented mindset. Getting help on porjects is like pulling teeth. You will also most likely work by yourself on a lot of stuff. 2) Experienced people all left. No higher knowledge to learn or gain experience from. 3) 2 weeks vacation seems pretty low bar. 4) Very much gut feeling reactions, not team or data driven decisions being made. 5) You will hear conflicting philosophies frequently. Whether its no bandaid solutions, taking the time to fix issues, or we need data driven decisions. 6) Unless you are higher on the food chain, you probably wont be listened to. Ties in with the lack of a collaborative environment. 7) Depending on your position, you may be constantly on call. 8) Lost desire to move up, seems like higher positions will just make you live here.
