NYMEX went from a shamelessly nepotistic environment to a chokingly controlling corporate culture - Senior Associate CME Group Employee Review

Pros

It's become a huge force in commodities trading since NYMEX merged with the CME to form CME Group... especially with energies and precious metals so big in the news. Traders don't act like they own the employees. Better employee benefits.

Cons

Employee and trading floor morale is down in the gutter. Floors that were once occupied with staff are now empty halls. The majority in charge manages from Chicago, which is pretty frustrating if you work in New York.

Pros

- Friendly working environment. - Slow-paced and relaxed. - Opportunity to work on high-impact financial software. Quite useful if you want to get into a trading firm later on.

Cons

- Limited skill growth capability (tools are severely locked down, etc) - Work life balance can be shaky sometimes since systems fail after 5pm, weekend, etc. - Documentation is terribly organized. - Not enough focus on engineering culture. Overall probably not the best place to stick around if you like exploring new skills, building from the ground up, taking ownership etc.
