Pros

Financially strong company Decent salary They pay for office, internet, phone, computer, etc Ability to earn commission and bonuses plus posh trips for the very few

Cons

Sales quotas are extremely difficult to meet consistently Steep penalties to your income if you miss quota even one month Can't specialize and be great in one area, forced to sell auto/home/life/investments every single month Management gets bonuses by hiring people so most don't care about a person staying with the company long term. They expect nearly everyone they hire to come on board, sell to every friend and family member and within a year as the quotas start getting higher and higher, the recruit will wash out and the business will get transferred to a career rep who's been loyal to the company for years. Rates are not competitive for auto insurance, middle of the road for home, used to be good for commercial but not anymore and their life insurance (which you are required to sell a lot of) is very mediocre with horrible underwriting. They say you will have freedom over your schedule when in truth, if you want to meet your quota or exceed it to earn extra commission, you'll be working 60+ hours per week including most nights and possibly weekends.
