Pros
Good base pay, chance to study for and obtain your licenses. You need Property/Casualty, Life/Health, and Series 6 Licenses. Extreme flexibility with how you schedule your work days and weeks but it really depends on the branch location you are in and whether that branch manager is an extreme micro manager or not. You can work from home or while away. As long as you are setting appointments, meeting with clients, and closing sales every month where you meet the minimum expectations, management usually won't bother you at all.
Cons
Barely any oversight or management at all. Even if you are having a bad or slow month, you are literally on your own sometimes. It really depends on the office you are in and whether all the agents in the office are socially active or not. Some offices are very individualistic and some are very group and team oriented. For offices that are individualistic, it's easy to lose motivation and sight of your goals. Sometimes as a new agent in this type of industry, you need a helping hand for the first few months until you learn the ropes. In an office where it's more social and team oriented, you feel that you aren't alone and are constantly being competitive and always have help and advice. Once you start the job, you are just doing training modules for your first few months but are encouraged to start building your book from the very beginning although your first benchmark month isn't until you are 5 months on the job which is kind of cool. This company provides all services but for someone looking to be more involved in Financial Planning or Retirement Planning, Investments, and so on, this isn't really the place. Too much focus and emphasis is on Insurance Sales. Cars Contests, Life Insurance Contests, Home Insurance and so forth. Nothing about Financial products since benchmarks for those are the lowest. So it's easy to become viewed as an "Insurance Salesman" rather as a full Financial Rep. I don't call up my auto insurance guy and say hey I want to take all my money out of Fidelity, Schwabb, or Vanguard and invest it with you guys. No one does that. Also, the answer to all investment and financial solutions is always Life Insurance at this Company. Becomes kind of annoying and makes you lose faith in Financial Investments.
