Pros

As a PT who loves outpatient orthopedics and private practice, for me this is THE place to work in the Madison area. There is a reason Capitol Physical Therapy has won Best of Madison for Physical Therapy Practice multiple times; all six locations work to get patients in quickly, then provide personalized and quality care. PTs have the freedom to decide the plan of care and the power to get patients scheduled as often as needed. We see a variety of conditions and that makes for an exciting day. The benefits are very good. We get stock appreciation benefits (which is so rare in the PT world), help with student loans, great health insurance, and 401K with company match, to name a few. I have gotten a raise every year. They use an objective system for all PTs, so raises are fair for everyone. We PTs are encouraged to grow our skills in directions that interest us. Through Capitol, I have been trained in dry needling. I was set up with an orthopedic residency with mentoring and weekend hand-on courses for manual skills. Capitol PT supported me in getting my OCS. I got to take a six week course on pain neuroscience taught by Adriaan Louw, which gave me more skills to work with those in persistent pain. I’ve received personalized mentoring from the CEO, which was valuable to me given her many years of experience in the field. I became interested in women’s health, so Capitol PT sent me to pelvic health courses and started me on a learning pathway, which can take me all the way to getting my WCS, if I desire! I attend monthly journal club, which is always a good time. Our team outings are fun and I can genuinely say that I like my colleagues. We are a fun group!

Cons

Private practice may not be for everyone. Those who want to grow their skills and careers and know how to be team players tend to do wonderfully here.

Pros

This role was such a positive experience for me. I got the unique perspective of both the behind-the-scenes as a care coordinator and more of the “hands-on” work as a PT tech and working with patients. This really helped me understand the full picture of that physical therapy looks like in this type of setting and I feel like it has prepared me well for PT school myself. Not only did I get to learn immensely about the profession but I felt very supported in my own professional journey as well. Julie has been an incredible mentor both for this role and in helping me apply and get accepted to PT school. This is a great experience for anyone taking a gap year and I highly recommend it!
