Pros

They try to make it a "fun" place to work. Plenty of employee activities.

Cons

Although this company touts itself as one of the best Detroit area companies to work at based on a Detroit Free Press survey, their treatment of workers leaves a lot to be desired. They are hiring, but hire almost exclusively contractors so they can dispose of them at will, like a used tissue. My "temp to perm" contract assignment ended abruptly after my manager learned that I had a minor medical problem that would require minor outpatient surgery (which I could take care of without missing any time from work). The manager of my contract agency said she was very surprised since all prior feedback regarding me had been "glowing." When the agency asked for clarification of why my assignment ended so abruptly, they were told only that "Carhartt isn't required to provide a reason." Undoubtedly, they thought this was a more serious problem than I was letting on and that I would either a) be unreliable or b) drive up their medical costs if they hired me direct. Worst of all, they were so cowardly that they let me go home for the evening and then had the agency phone me at home to tell me not to come back the next day. I never received any negative feedback whatsoever, nor a real explanation of why my assignment ended prematurely, but I'm 100% certain of the cause due to the timing of the end of my assignment.

Pros

Decent benefits, good work life balance, great PTO packages

Cons

Hard attendance policy. I provided proof of a terrible thing that happened to my family and doctors notes, they still pulled me into the office and had me sign papers saying it wasn’t approved and threatened my job. This was very stressful. Also for as much change and learning as we are required to do switching from one program to another I believe they should raise Technician pay- order flow and Inventory control all deserve more. Also they had a meeting last year discussing that they justified their pay based on the surrounding market. Inventory control in larger cities make $2-5+ more per hour. It would be a life changing pay bump for many if it were updated. It is also disappointing how many offsite analysts there are, why not employ the locals?
