Pros
Some legacy engineers who are very smart and dedicated to water/wastewater environment and industry.
Cons
This company’ culture has become like some of other mega firms in the industry but continues to project their “family” type of vibe without the support or recognition that would actually make it so. Myself and some other lead and senior engineers had brought in some new clients based on attending conferences, providing info sessions and our relationships with them on projects over the years. While I had a great review, I was told that I “still need to work” on my people management skills and bring in more work. When I asked my reviewer to provide specific examples, they said they didn’t have the time to go through it with me and just like last year, I would be eligible for a promotion “maybe next year”. The carrot continues to dangle. Speaking of the review process, it is extremely tedious to the point that most managers do not want to spend time on reading an employee needs and accomplishments. Instead mangers will just make sure they give good marks to their favorites and do the bare minimum for everyone else. I decided to put in my notice for a better opportunity at a competitor which includes a promotion and I was met with guilt trips, cold shoulders, and a sense that I was betraying the company. This all makes me certain that I made the right decision by leaving.
