Pros
Nice place to work, great culture overall (depending on your manager/dept). Its great to work under a supportive leader that truly cares about your role and wellbeing. As a long time CU employee, I finally feel like I have a great manager and a wonderful supportive team. It took a while, but it was worth the wait. Benefits are very good; I just wish there was more focus on women's health for maternity leave, but I guess this is the norm in the US. It's quite sad, however, that a company run by women has pretty mediocre maternity leave benefits (6 weeks + 3 weeks bonding time @ 60% pay). While other companies on the same scale as CU provide a minimum of 4+ months FULLY PAID maternity leave. I just expected more from this company and their mission...
Cons
Not too many cons to report, but it's higher education. I think if I had this job elsewhere, the pay would definitely be higher - probably by $20 - $40K. However, the sacrifice for lower pay is remote working, lots of autonomy, plus lower stress. It can go either way. Another con would be that the career ladder isn't really too attainable in most departments. There's little teaching/coaching provided to those that do want to get ahead in the organization that are high performers. If I were leadership in CU, I would be careful so as not to lose some of these folks. It makes sense to keep the high performers over time and pay them well, verses losing someone great and having to rehire and train.
