Horrible Culture Sucks Decency From Good People - Senior Associate Chemonics International Employee Review

Pros

- Almost all programs/projects are very rewarding to contribute towards - Chemonics is full of intellectuals and do-gooders motivated to create positive, sustainable impact around the globe... you just may not have time to tap into these networks (depending on your project/program) - Yearly professional development funds can be used for a wide variety of purposes including language courses

Cons

- YOUR INDIVIDUAL EXPERIENCE WILL LIKELY ENTIRELY DEPEND ON WHO YOUR SUPERVISOR IS ... some good, others decent, but plenty who are notoriously bad. - No flexible working arrangements for staff below a certain grade/tier (eg. they will force associates to relocate even if the rest of your team is fully remote) - Poor work/life balance - be prepared to have at least 10 hours of work a day but be expected to complete it in 8... - HR is there to defend and support management, not support most employees functioning as cogs a part of the overall machine - Management doesn't look kindly upon employees that aren't conformist by nature and bring fresh ideas and approaches to the table (eg. they want to mold associates into Chemonics-designed cogs to churn out ever more applications etc. vs. be a workplace that encourages the exchange of ideas to improve dev aid writ large and the impact of individual projects/programs) - Low pay scale for junior staff for a private company

Pros

Truly a great company to work for, they care so much about work/life balance. Everyone is kind and they are like family.

Cons

It can be hard working from home because you never see your coworkers and sometimes you lose that momentum.

Pros

Clear company structure, processes, and tools. Professional development funds available. Easy-to-use and high-quality benefits. Pay is fair for the work.

Cons

"Company is family" mentality, sanitized rather than straightforward communications from executives, poor training, unclear standards of success, vague professional growth guidance and no clear paths towards becoming the ideal professional at this company.
