While the company had a kitschy environment it was covering an underlying problem. I had only gotten out of training about four weeks after I left the job because I was burnt out because of many different factors, and a lot of this could have been avoided if we were just told straight out in training what was expected of us. We were told in training that we were allowed to take breaks at our desks, so upon my first week out of training I was called out to the side and was reprimanded for doing so. Another issue is that management has a very intimidating and oppressive air about them and that is not conducive to anybody. I was always very nervous when I would see someone from management doing the rounds, and I am a person who does their job effectively. Another issue is that, again, in training was that we are supposed to be there to 'lend an ear' to anybody on the phone no matter how long that phone call takes. What ultimately led me to leave the company once and for all was that I had customers, consecutively for that matter, one who was talking about his wife who had just undergone a mastectomy and another was a call from a veteran who was going to AA and was grateful for companies such as Chewy because we are there to listen. In both of those calls, I was called out to wrap up these calls, and that was something I could not do because, that, to me felt cold and inhumane. I also feel that the higher-ups favor their friends and the rules do not apply to them, as I have passed by some of their desks and while we are not allowed to have phones, headphones, etc. at our desks, those who are friendly with the higher-ups had all of those out and were listening to music while doing work. What I also did not appreciate was that we had to meet a quota of writing a greeting card for a customer at 4.30 everyday even if we were on back to back phone calls.
