Pros

Working directly with students. The ability to create your culture and climate within your classroom. Creating long lasting relationships with students. Support from the Chicago Teachers Union is essential. CPS teacher salaries tend to be higher than many other states in the US due to a strong union presence in chicago. The Chicago Teachers Union negotiates the contract and the salaries and pay scale is based not only on your years employed but also based on your educational achievements.

Cons

CPS will always be in flux. There will always be a new mandated curriculum. There has been budget cuts for several years. As a teacher you can go from a "hero and essential worker on the front lines" of the pandemic to being seen as a "lazy, glorified babysitter" in no time at all.
