Pros

Great staff, students & their families (the kids make it worth it!), decent salary, decent union (excellent campaigns for economic & racial justice, but a lot of really ableist leadership - there has been a huge loss of solidarity since 2021)

Cons

Tons of unpaid work to keep up with things, rodents and roaches in many buildings, professional development that not only wastes your time but numbs your mind and makes you feel ill, truly depraved, soulless people in downtown and network leadership, horrific revolving door of CEOs and board members beholden to the mayor, ableist, absurd attendance policies for the kids that you are expected to participate in ("don't you wanna win this pencil?!"), having to wade through a lot of BS required curriculum so you can teach what you really need to teach. Oh and if you want to have truly involved parents, good luck. CPS puts up a lot of barriers to that.

Pros

Flexibility, hands on work with students and family, work life balance.

Cons

High stress at times. Poor relationship with administration would make this role very difficult.
