When I took the job I thought of all of the businesses I could call and inquire about, big businesses that everyone knows, Harlely, Aurora, the casino, but they have a rule that you can't call them if another person is already working with them, which honestly is a good thing because no one can poach your business and HR folks aren't getting 800 calls from random people. But what was left over wasn't enough to build a book on.
The commission structure is tiered. As soon as you get a groove and start making money, they change the rules and you make less. The rule change was that you had to sell more to keep more of your commissions. It was really demotivating knowing that I worked so hard to get established and make a paycheck and then have the rules changed and my paycheck change.
You have to make a minimum of 80 cold calls a day.
It's really REALLY hard to move up into a senior role or grow your book because its already taken. Some of the best accounts are handed to people who are "lifers".
All of my interactions with the CEO were awful! He's an arrogant man who does not listen to employees, compromise or share. He is above the employees and we are just lucky to have a job at his firm. Very big ego. You need to stroke it to be on the way up.
