Pros
Some great people A lot of exposure, get to experience things out of my comfort zone Allocations of Increments, promotions and bonuses within the department are fair (although the pool from which they are allocated is rather meager)
Cons
Extremely process and paperwork intensive A lot of unnecessary pains and waste of time due to insufficient underlying tools or poorly trained support personnel decade old technologies Not a conducive environment to cultivate software engineering talent Constant fire-fighting and support duties which distract me away from working on permanent/long-term solutions
