Pros

There are 2 main reasons that I rate working at Classical Charter Schools as a 5. First, the support from instructional coaches, fellow team members and the administration is comparable to no other work environment. Whether it is the regular observations that provide valuable feedback in improving my instruction or the comfort in knowing I can turn to countless people in stressful times when I need advice, Classical Charter Schools makes a point to be a source of support, no matter the situation. Having worked at a high school last year, where I was observed maybe 5 times the entire year, it is amazing to now have an entire team working with me to make me the best teacher that I can be for my scholars. The second reason is the scholars themselves. These children can be difficult and overwhelming at times, but they are always so full of love and can be such a joy to work with that it's easy to forget earlier frustrations. Working at Classical Charter Schools has given me the chance to give scholars from more difficult backgrounds the opportunity to succeed more than they could ever imagine. Working with these scholars reminds me daily of how much potential they have to make a difference in the world. That's a really powerful thing to be a part of.

Cons

If you are interested in working at CCS, be prepared to have a heavy workload. I list this under cons only because some people may not be aware of the high expectations that we hold ourselves to. It can absolutely be stressful at times but once you learn to manage your time efficiently, the work pays off in unimaginable ways as you watch your scholars excel.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! You’ve highlighted many of the things that we’re proud of. And yes, we agree that managing expectations for incoming staff is extremely important. The work is hard and the hours are long but the reward of knowing you played a part in significantly altering someone’s life trajectory for the better provides a joy and sense of accomplishment that is difficult to match.

Pros

* Teachers are provided with classroom materials and resources. * Teachers are not required to pay for or print materials on their own. * Operations team supports printing and material preparation.

Cons

* Printing machines frequently break down, causing delays and disruptions. * Teachers do not have direct access to printing and must rely on Operations. * Teacher supply requests are often limited or denied despite classroom needs. * Staff morale and student joy feel very low or nonexistent. * School leadership creates a culture of fear when data is not where it is expected to be. * There is little accountability placed on parents regarding attendance and scholar responsibilities. * Attendance policies are extremely strict for staff and students. * Spirit days lack excitement because students are often still restricted by uniform expectations. * Overall school culture can feel overly rigid and stressful rather than supportive and uplifting.
