I started working PT in 2008 for the Minneapolis Phone Canvass. What I thought might be a few months job turned into a nearly 8 year career and fueled my desire to continue working as an environmental activist. Canvassing gives you an opportunity to learn about progressive social and environmental issues every day on the job, work with talented and passionate coworkers, and build a skill set for yourself including invaluable communication skills. There are also many opportunities to travel and work in other CWA offices across the country, both within the canvass and with program staff -- and the leadership is always willing to help you take advantage of opportunities available. When you start you'll work with knowledgeable trainers to help you succeed and there is tons of room for growth and moving up within the organization. Not only does the job build your ability to talk knowledgeably about issues that impact communities every day, but you leave knowing you’ve empowered others to take action in a much greater movement to stop big oil & gas industries, chemical lobbyists, and corporate interests who’s bottom line is money, NOT the health of communities and our drinking water. I feel lucky to have responded to an ad on Craigslist so many years ago, and would recommend getting a job with Clean Water Action to anyone wanting to make a positive difference for themselves and others.
