Pros
You have great co-workers who share similar morals and are overwhelmingly positive. It's also fun to be able to discuss politics and progressive issues regularly. There are a lot of opportunities to advance, into policy positions or into directing. In the last 3 years, I've seen staff advance to run offices in Connecticut; Denver, CO; Ohio; and Dallas, TX, as well as advancing into an election-related policy role. The schedule is flexible if you're a student and need to move between full and part time. The benefits are available for both full and part time as well. The best thing though is seeing the organization win major campaigns because of the work we've done in the field. In May we passed the Clean Water Rule, which restored protections to the drinking water of over 100 million Americans. We won because we mobilized over 100,000 public comments from community members in the summer of 2014. It feels amazing to see your work generate results like that.
Cons
If you are looking for a job where you're inside and sitting down, this is not the job for you.
