Pros
I was a student technician in CSU's IS&T Department and it was the best job I could have as a student. Hours were flexible, the pay was OK, and the department even paid for training/certifications. My supervisors were great and very supporting to the student technicians. Many of the students would find an internship or co-op for a semester or so, and many of them came back to IS&T afterwards because most of us had a great relationship with our supervisors. I learned so much from this job and still use many of the skills I learned in IS&T today.
Cons
While there are smart and polite people in this department, a handful of the senior managers are complete morons who are disconnected from the rest of the department. Recently, they (sort of) fixed this and juggled them around to different areas. In addition, my supervisors' boss threatened to get rid of all the student workers at least once a year. Good luck supporting all faculty and staff computing equipment when your student workers (about 20 technicians) that do your heavy-lifting and dirty work are gone.
