Pros

CoBank offers reasonable compensation and benefits. In many parts of the organization, people seem to be having a far more positive experience. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the Technology Department.

Cons

In my time at the bank, I watched dysfunction rewarded and dissent punished. The technology division operates with a deeply broken leadership model, one where loyalty matters more than skill. There's a heavy air of performative ethics, but very little follow-through when it matters. Resources and promotions are distributed based on your status in the CoBank caste system and the aforementioned loyalty. Budgets and deadlines are rarely scrutinized if you're in the right circle. Meanwhile, engineers are constantly told to do more with less and to accept instability as a fact of life. Leadership will tell you that the pressure to deliver is a privilege, and you should be thanking them for giving you that privilege.

Pros

Financially speaking CoBank is a stable company. The yearly bonus payout is competitive,

Cons

It's referred to as "CoBank nice" which is another way of saying it's a passive-aggressive culture. If you dislike endless meetings, this environment can be frustrating. Strong resistance to change at the leadership levels - despite claims of being focused on transformation, real progress is very limited. Extremely slow pace. Recent months have brought significant organizational and leadership changes, but very little acknowledgement about the impact those changes have on associates. PTO is definitely not competitive.
