Pros

The building is nice. 40 hour even work week. Decent training and starting pay- but don't fall for it.

Cons

Metrics, metrics, metrics! Oh, and layoffs and micromanagement. Your value as a human being is derived monthly from an arbitrary metrics system. How many 90 second calls can you make to someone who doesn't want to hear from you? How many true building owners can you find on Google? How good are you at falsifying monthly numbers, because the vast majority of "researchers" do so to stay employed? I use quotes because actual research isn't really part of the job- we gather existing data from obvious, predetermined sources and put it in a database. "Research" often feels more like customer service. Just don't forget, these numbers determine your worth and not silly things like tenure, intellect or subject matter expertise. Did I mention layoffs in portfolio research? Summer 2018- Columbia, MD office closes, 150+ terminated. Some researchers accepted a transfer to DC. Summer 2019- DC eliminates portfolio research, 100 laid off along with many more in Atlanta. CoStar doesn't care about you.

CoStar Group Response

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. At CoStar Group, we continuously focus on improving how we measure success for our teams and maximize value to our clients, and we appreciate your feedback. CoStar Group is in a period of expansion and we're actively looking to grow our team. However, it’s important to understand the business decisions behind some of the recent organizational shifts in the research department. With the success of our Apartments.com business, our methods for capturing data in the multifamily space – whether through electronic feeds, direct user entry, or other methods – have simply evolved. As a result, we conducted an organizational realignment to ensure job functions match with our methods for collecting information and are more in-line with the future direction of the business. As the leader in the multifamily space, Apartments.com continues to extend our footprint and will expand our focus by increasing the sales force. We are hiring 100 new outbound multifamily sales consultants based in Richmond. Unfortunately, because of this shift of focus, the Community Research group based in Atlanta, GA has been eliminated. This decision was purely business-related in an effort to align our research and sales resources to current data collection methods. It was not at all related to employee or company financial performance. Decisions like these that affect the daily lives of our employees are not made lightly. We value our employees and the work they do in making CoStar Group the leading provider of commercial real estate information, analytics, and online marketplaces. Impacted employees have been offered the appropriate resources to help them through this transition. These employees also have the opportunity to apply for one of the new outbound multifamily sales positions, or any other open position within the company where their skills align to the job requirements. We do read all reviews to see where we're getting things right and where we can improve. If you have any specific feedback you can give us about leadership and you feel comfortable doing so, please email us at HRdepartment@costar.com. Thanks for your time with us. We wish you the best in the next steps in your career.

Pros

I worked for Homes.com - Great first job out of college to learn a lot about sales and can make good money in the first 3 months - FIND PEOPLE THAT HAVE DONE THIS JOB AND HAVE LEFT AND FIGURE OUT WHY CUZ THEY'LL TELL YOU

Cons

I worked for Homes.com - You're doing 3 jobs in one and the pay does not reflect that - it is churn and burn. The average tenure here is 7 months - Management doesn't know what's going on 3/4 of the time. It is all up to the CEO and he's on his private jet more than 3/4 of the time
