A solid company to work for, as far as retail goes - Sales Associate Columbia Sportswear Employee Review

Pros

I don't think I could have more fun working in a retail environment. Management did a fantastic job of hiring all of our staff (head office and HR were heavily involved which is more than I can say for allot of other retail store opens), there isn't a single person on the team who doesn't get along. The management are fair, supportive, and genuinely seem to care about their employees.

Cons

Perhaps the only real con that comes to mind at current time is that Columbia Sportswear only hires "part time" floor/stock staff despite many of us continually working full time hours, I.E essentially a way of skirting benefits. I understand this is common practice in the industry but it would be nice to see a progressive company like Columbia be more supportive of its employees.

Pros

Positive environment, great training, pride in products and technology.

Cons

Seasonal employees get "up to 25 hours" but I have only been scheduled up to 15 hours a week.

Pros

Good work-life balance and benefits.

Cons

What was once a pro for culture has now become a con. Uncertainty due to massive layoffs. Remote work has been largely eliminated, and thus flexibility has decreased signficantly. Offshore and AI initiatives to reduce local US workforce. Although collaboration is encouraged, departments are siloed and operate independently which causes significant inefficiencies costing the company millions of dollars. Diversity is also lacking in a number of departments. Over reliance on external consultants instead of leveraging internal expertise.
