Pros
Get to work with high performing teammates. You can build your skills as much as you want. You can learn how to sway the will of a team and deliver results.
Cons
Poor pay. Management doesn't care how talented you are, they'll only dangle more money if you get another offer. On call work is actually active prod support. You're so completely underpaid from an hourly perspective, once you're on salary you're in a bad place. if you're competent, you'll get placed on five projects while covering two leads and you'll get absolutely no credit. Your manager will also task you with "coaching" a senior bi engineer that doesn't know how to connect to a server on ssms, because the manager didn't bother doing any level of due diligence on his hire. They also say they give comp time for extra hours, I worked multiple 12 straight days every third week during the pandemic with not a single day comped. I also worked 60+ week one week coming off a major medical issue where I was in ICU. they don't care about you. with all that said, they give you no time off, they force you to take the final week off of your personal PTO. so when they say you have 18days you really only have 13. but you get a clothing discount so I guess it's all worth it ( which possibly it could be if you have major medical issues because the medical insurance is good) the rest is typical corporate
