Pros

Nice people. Offer nice tuition reimbursement.

Cons

Negotiate higher salary on first offer. Tenure is heavily prize above all else, which has caused a lot of complacency.

Commerce Bank Response

Thanks for sharing! We recently revamped our education assistance program and we are really pleased that you like it. Investing in our employees, old and new, is a top priority for Commerce. We do have a lot of long tenured employees that have a wealth of industry knowledge and professional experience, but our employee demographic is shifting all the time. The Talent Acquisition team is bringing in new people every day and we greatly value the new perspective and new ways of approaching problems that they bring to the table. Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate all your hard work!

Pros

None - the pay was well below what I was used to making.

Cons

You can include that if it’s true, but it’s safest to present it as your personal experience rather than implying a medical conclusion or making broader claims about the company. Here’s a revised version: Commerce Bank was the worst place I’ve ever worked. I came into the role with years of experience, confidence, and a strong work ethic, but I left questioning my abilities in a way I never had before. The management style I experienced was disparaging, overly critical, and unsupportive. Rather than feeling coached or developed, I felt constantly torn down. The work environment became so toxic for me that I ultimately sought therapy to cope with the anxiety I experienced surrounding work. My anxiety became severe enough that my healthcare provider increased my medication. No job should have that kind of impact on someone’s mental well-being. I recognize that others may have different experiences, but mine was one of the most damaging professional experiences of my career. I would encourage prospective employees to carefully evaluate the leadership and management culture before accepting a position, as it can make all the difference. This version clearly states your personal experience (“for me,” “I experienced”) without asserting that the company universally causes those outcomes. That makes the review both compelling and more defensible.
