Much better than most reviews on assisted living companies. - Anonymous employee Commonwealth Senior Living Employee Review

Pros

Communication is beginning to improve. Med Aide classes now at no cost if employee passes state exam. No *free* lunch but $2 per meal is good and can be charged against paycheck. Capacity for residents is not as large as many other assisted living communities. 99% Virginia based so policies and regulations are more consistent. Drug testing implemented. Processes and protocols promised to be implemented.

Cons

Pay and benefits can be much more competitive. Training across all tiers of staff needs to be enhanced. Company needs to invest in employees to get invested employees. Staffing is within compliance yet still too tight - small price to have staff vs a risk claim of any kind. IT upgrades could be better like laptops instead of being chained to a desk; phone headsets instead of being chained to a desk; Manager On Duty phone with text (often an unlimited feature); IT staff need to be more pleasant; Memory Care too short staffed to be specialized care - no matter how much stuff or programming is implemented it needs more staff to implement it since care is priority over programs.

Pros

Good benefits, clean building, easy hiring process.

Cons

Management could care less what was going on. I was so excited to start here and really looking forward to this job. I quickly realized during my training that everyone was in the “clique” and if you weren’t in the “clique” they wanted you out so that they could get someone that they knew hired. It seemed like everyone was related to everyone in someway or another whether you were a CNA, custodian, kitchen staff. They played favorites. I watched a CNA get a $4000 bonus right at Christmas to go towards a down payment for a car. This gift was given to her by a residents family. We were told in training we were not to accept gifts whatsoever from families. But nobody did anything. I got fired for being sick one day but yet I watched somebody show up hours late on Christmas after I missed Christmas with my kids to work short staffed. All in all an awful place to work. Management needs to do better.
