Pros

Before 2005 this was a little hospital in the middle of orange groves. There were some great OB doctors and surgeons practicing there to make it a cute boutique for those services. Now you can’t recognize the place. It is a beautiful, clean, and well maintained facility with a cafeteria that does better than many restaurants. They have 20 operating rooms and a booming outpatient service. It is the private physician’s choice place of practice. I took an employment opportunity here leaving the larger Fresno facility. I was impressed with the leadership from the (Castro) CEO to the people I work with. We just had a surprise TJC inspection several months before we expected them to show when we were the busies we have ever been and passed without issues and an estimated 98.6%. One thing that took me back is the mantra “The Clovis Way.” Coming from the systems larger (3X) facility I kept thinking what the heck is this? I have caught on. The CEO wants Clovis Community Medical Center to be an inviting tranquil setting where patients and physicians want to go. The staff feel the support and pride. The halls are full of smiles and polite greetings. Even the TJC surveyors mentioned they got it after 3 days (5 months for me). It is not a place to go if you want to sit around and collect a check. The staff may be smiling but they also work hard and take pride in their work.

Cons

Some of the surrounding hospitals will buy CMC staff and happiness with super high salaries that seam unsustainable in the long run. The ones that leave say the job sucks but they pay me a lot.

Pros

Great learning opportunities. Overall friendly and supportive staff.

Cons

ED pushes patients to your floor in an unsafe manner. There’s no wait time in between patient transfers. You could get a patient, start your assessment and then get another one while still doing your assessment and have no clue if the new patient is bleeding out or unstable. Incredibly dangerous for the patient and the nurse. Not enough PCT’s. I feel stressed a lot at every shift. The computers are so slow and they log out of every session with tap out which is annoying cause you have to reopen epic every single time. The keyboard trays and monitor arms are all broke in the patient rooms. The discharge lounge is more work than actually discharging your patient yourself.
