Pros
If your a RN, or other licensed medical staff like LVN, X-ray tech and the various sub-fields like CT, ultrasound, etc., you will be treated decently. Pay is good, the benefits are decent like 401(k)/403(b) options, health care coverage is decent as well. If you are support staff it varies. Medical support staff like nursing assistants (CNA's or EMT's if work in the ER) or EKG techs due to being in patient care setting are granted extra pay incentives for being part of patient care. If you have to settle for facility support positions like security, housekeeping, maintenance, etc. Consider those positions a foot in the door so you can begin or finish your ongoing education for those with the intention of jumping over to a patient care position..
Cons
Pay regardless of your position is good but the lowest for the area when compared to other organizations in the area. The health care benefits are decent but have diminished over the years as the company has tried to do cut backs where possible. Its better than nothing and better than the "Obama Care" coverage but again depending on your health requirements it can cause you more unneeded headaches than you would expect. Management and Administration I have found seems to all share the common goal of making money, or minimizing losses and maximizing efficiency...Quality of patient care is unfortunately considerably farther down on the list, and frankly unacceptable since that is the primary role. Also, employee's who are outspoken and provide CONSTRUCTIVE feedback to long standing problems or problems starting to surface aren't welcomed with open ears and usually get a disciplinary form of a reminder to just be a mindless, mute puppet that comes to work does their job and goes home. Also, as far as advancement goes... the word joke basically sums it up... nepotism, cronyism, etc all determines who moves up where and how fast.. job performance, proven track record of solid work history' things you want to thing would be determining factors are not. Extremely political and again another reason why the quality of patient care is in the gutter...
