Pros

"Moral" and "Nice" place if that is all you want as a professional and believer.

Cons

Compassion is a great place to NOT grow professionally, personally or spiritually. Professionally you sit in meeting after worthless meeting to have nothing to show. It is analysis paralysis and all leadership has to say is that they hope value is found in it. Personally you are to care for yourself and advocate for the mission through innovation and efficiency but you get destroyed when you challenge things. Spiritually if you say you are a Christian, you are in. They do not truly seek the heart of God, put discipleship in place or place themselves at a higher standard. As long as they are not doing "as bad" as other ministries or organizations/companies then they are doing well and expect God to bless them continually. They have lied and told employees to lie to sponsors. Kids that are no longer in the program or the country no longer allows Compassion to work there, Compassion has just switched out similar looking kids and hope that sponsors don't notice. If sponsors do notice then they are just told that it was a technical error and apologize. Pizza parties and elaborate "retreats" are put in place without really considering the purpose of being there. No one speaks out because they are fine with a political answer given or are enjoying the great benefits, fancy workplace, etc.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this concern. Whenever a sponsored child leaves Compassion's program, we do offer the sponsor an opportunity to help another child in poverty. We first try to find a child of the same age and gender and who attends the same Compassion child development center as the original sponsored child. This, of course, is done completely upfront and through direct communication with the sponsor. We have never, nor would we ever try to replace a sponsor’s child without the sponsor’s knowledge. Had the person who submitted this review simply asked, we could have explained our process for finding an available child for a sponsor who has gone through the traumatic experience of losing a sponsored child. We apologize for any confusion about this process.

Pros

Great people... great mission. Incredible to be a part of such a life-changing ministry to some of the most impoverished children in the world.

Cons

Expectations are very high to do so much with relatively little resources.

Pros

Everyone is attracted to the mission, at least at first. There are some exceptional benefits in terms of work flexibility, and an overall sense of making a meaningful impact in lives.

Cons

Things move slowly, and direction is often unclear to the point that staff lose motivation. The organization is undergoing financial stress with no clear remedy, and there are very limited opportunities for growth. It's frustrating to see pet projects get resources while true organizational needs go unattended. The medical insurance offering has been almost worthless, though Compassion tries with a HSA plus-up.
