Pros

The free lunches were good. There were many fun employee events. Casual attire was allowed. They provided flexible hours and telecommuting for some. Worked with many talented people.

Cons

Shopzilla publicly announced that it was being bought out by Symphony Technology Group (a private company) in April 2011 from Scripps Network Interactive (a public company). The president formally announced that there would be no changes and to expected business as usual. When Symphony officially took over in June 2011, they laid off 30 employees (10% of staff) the first week of ownership. Many of the employees released were highly valuable and had served the company for many many years. Out of political shrewdness, they basically cut off part of their arm by letting key people go just so they can improve their financial statement to the new owners. Little did they know that it would sooner or later come back to haunt them through a subsequent mass voluntary exodus of other good employees.

Pros

Work hard, play hard mentality. Great culture and a lot of fun events that made my internship memorable.

Cons

Can be a bit empty in office sometimes as most work remotely.

Pros

Endless opportunities for the self-driven and ambitious. I was lucky enough to work under a single manager, David Weinrot, who entrusted me throughout my tenure to drive countless initiatives. He represents, for me, my time with the company. I still carry with me today much of what I learned wearing the many hats he provided access to across the company. Though demanding, he was a great partner in brainstorming new ideas, driving innovation and providing support when needed. This training provided me with the launchpad I needed to, after 5 years, move onto managing an organization with a budget of $120MM that leveraged all of the skills I learned under his direction.

Cons

The company as a whole, while I was there, had a lot going on. I am sure many things have changed since then, though I suspect success will hinge on comfort with agility and change, as with any modern company.
