Pros

Benefits are great. 401k contribution is standard up to 3% total contribution. Could be better especially for an energy company. Utilize your position, get experience to land a better role.

Cons

Networking across departments can be difficult. Expect to be ghosted by fellow team members. My site location is constantly understaffed. This leads to work/life imbalance as I am working more overtime than desired, especially on weekends where it's crucial as I have a family. My position is not an office position so your mileage will vary and will probably be better in a corporate setting.

Great pay, amazing benefits and lots of opportunities for inter-disciplinary work.

Cons

Very remote area in Northern New York. Very difficult winter season - a lot of precipitation.

Pros

Coworkers are all intelligent and overall good people to spend 12hrs a day with.

Cons

The department is perpetually understaffed. You’ll never actually work an 8hr shift, because no one is dumb enough to vote for that schedule. There’s not enough operators to fill the schedule without being forced all the time for 16hr shifts. Be prepared to be forced for OT on a regular basis even with a 12hr schedule. If your family is important, then this probably is not a good long-term plan. You’re going to miss sports, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. You live at work and home is a place you sleep. The company might advertise company holidays, but that just means you get paid a little more for being here on those days.
