The perks are attractive and indeed they help create a generally positive environment, but the reality is CMM is a polished turd. The healthcare system in America is a mess and CMM is not a solution to the problem but a further CAUSE of the problem. Here's why: 1. The company is unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. If universal healthcare ever became a reality in America, as it is in the rest of the developed world, CMM would go away because PAs would go away. BUT because CMM relies on this needlessly convoluted system of healthcare for its business model, it is in CMM's best interest to keep healthcare costly and confusing for the average person. Thus, CMM is not a part of the solution but of the problem that is US healthcare and the crippling debt, stiffing anxiety, and social unrest it causes. 2. Who pays the bills? While CMM claims to be looking out for patients, in reality, it's primary interests are determined by who pays the bills. In this case, the majority of their revenue is from big Pharma. They essentially push expensive drugs so that pharmaceutical companies make more and more money. CMM cannot seriously claim innocence to the injustices of this system when it's biggest source of profit is pharma. The role I am current in as AC is essentially that of a drug pusher on behalf of pharma. That may be an exaggeration, but it sure does feel like that sometimes. It is hard to exist in this role without coming face to face with the brutality of this system on a daily basis. 3. McKesson and the opioid crisis. Since CMM was bought by McKesson, it became clear that CMM is deeply embedded into the corrupt healthcare industry by partnering with one of the worst names in the business, McKesson, who directly contributed to the opioid crisis. The buy-out has also led to a number of cultural changes which have worsened the culture of CMM drastically. It is unlikely that CMM will remain a highly desirable employer for long. 4. Locally (here in Columbus), CMM has taken money in the form of a tax abatement. This money negatively effects budget of the Columbus City School District, which is already struggling severely. That is more Columbus money going to a rich private company rather than to school children and teachers. There is a reason why CMM has been subject to numerous protests by the teacher's union. Thus, for a company that boast itself as the best place to work, that presents itself as a force for good and as a liberal and progressive company, the reality is far different. Under the surface there lies the rotting corpse of US healthcare, drug profiteering, and political corruption. Do not be fooled by the flashy appearance. CMM is in the thick of big pharma and US healthcare plain and simple. It is on the side of keeping this country bankrupt and under the heavy weight of a needlessly expensive medical industry that makes billions and billions while American's suffer. But the end of private healthcare is imminent, and so is the end of all those companies who have profited for so long off of the misery of Americans, such as CMM.
