Pros
- The 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) was great. Having a long weekend every other week really spoiled you and it created a great work-life balance. - It really depends on the team, but I lucked out. My team was fantastic—everyone worked well together, and there was a real effort to be friends outside of work. We’d have casual conversations about food, hobbies, and just life in general. - I liked my boss. He wasn’t too micromanaging and gave me the space to grow and learn, which made a huge difference in my experience. - The campus was super clean, modern, and new. It was a little empty, but that makes sense since most people were on hybrid or remote work while I was there. The gym on campus was pretty nice too. - As a new grad straight out of college, I learned so much. I gained tons of knowledge about agile development, enterprise software tools, and everything related to software development. It was a solid foundation for my career.
Cons
- Cubic lost several major contracts around 2023-2024, and to cut costs, they had large workforce reductions. Unfortunately, it seemed like the people who actually did the work, like developers, were let go while the project managers mostly stayed. It felt very much like a "who you know" situation, and it was frustrating to see good work go unrecognized while people who were still putting in effort were let go. - By the end of my time there, there was a lack of drive. The company kept losing contracts, and projects kept getting delayed. Developers felt like they couldn’t do much to impact the situation, which made it tough to stay motivated and excited about the work. - There was a lot of restructuring at the top, and it sent mixed messages to the employees about the company's stability. It was hard to stay confident in the direction things were going with constant changes and uncertainty. - A lot of development jobs seemed to be outsourced to India. While it’s understandable from a cost perspective, it created a lot of challenges. By the time I left in 2024, most of the team was outsourced, which caused communication issues due to the time difference. We’d often be awake when they were asleep, and vice versa. This made it difficult to collaborate efficiently.
