Pros
I made lifelong friends here over the past 2 years of working here. The benefits package make it worth working here especially as a recent graduate. They give you medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and even access to a private gym that’s only open to employees. There are growth opportunities here depending on who is the team lead and who is the supervisor. I’ve learned a lot about my role, and discovered that science is something I am passionate about pursuing.
Cons
As much as I loved it here, higher-ups were very lackluster in their communication amongst employees. We filled out a survey that asked every employee about our thoughts on what management can do to improve, yet hardly any progress was done (or hardly immeasurable/noticeable if anything). You have to understand, if you work at a place and are constantly kept in the dark about layoffs happening or what is exactly going on with the company’s budget, that would cause extreme anxiety for anyone. Unfortunately, that was the case for me. There were rumors floating around about layoffs that happened a few months before I was actually laid off. Had the company been a lot more transparent, we as employees would have appreciated that and considered applying to other jobs much earlier, knowing how competitive the job market is today. Also, can we talk about how difficult it is to reach out to any of the HR personnel or talent acquisition partners once you’re hired? If you’re trying to transfer to another internal role, guaranteed it will be a lot more difficult than you expect. Also, HR had a meeting with my team once and tried to backfire on the clock-in/clock-out policy, even though we as employees, have fully acknowledged that we are legally entitled to 8 hour shifts every day. HR, I’m not really a fan of. They hide behind their computers when you call them out.
