Pros

Not your typical Walmart management. Assistant managers, along with the store manager, were engaging and really do take pride in what they do. Every day was an opportunity to make another athlete happy in my department. Bringing joy to those who shopped in the golf section was something I took great pride in. Employees worked together as a team, going to different departments to help when needed. Very great crew I worked with, that would hang outside of work. That's how you know we actually enjoyed each other. We also created a softball league that we versed other stores in. Morning meetings were a blast. Bicycle races, bag toss, etc. Fun games to get us started for the day with a gift card reward for the winner. Not your "Ugh, I have to participate in the company's pizza party" type of stuff. Very enjoyable overall, and fully stocked breakroom was an absolute PLUS when you didn't want to go out to get lunch! Couldn't have asked for a greater job experience while in college. Was very sad to leave the job, and I've never felt sad leaving any previous job prior to working there. Matching 401k for anyone who's interested in those full-time benefits as well (I was part-time).

Cons

Short staffed sometimes in order to beat numbers. Lot of pressure to upsell warranties and credit cards but NOTHING like Kohls. You will not lose your job if you don't upsell a credit card, and majority people had a rewards card so you'd never get dinged for that. That's the only con I can think of.

Pros

- Unlimited PTO with 401k match is awesome

Cons

- Performance expectations were often unclear or inconsistently communicated, Feedback was reactive instead of timely and actionable. - Leadership quality varied dramatically by manager, with limited coaching or mentorship. - Constant shifting priorities without adjusting expectations or workload. - Psychological safety was lacking, Honest communication feel risky. - Leadership messaging around culture didn't match day-to-day reality. - Process was often valued more than impact or results. - Compensation well below market, w/little flexibility during negotiations. - I felt excluded from key conversations and opportunities that were important to my success.
