Pros
Teammates, Teammates, Teammates. There is a reason why DaVita has more 4 & 5 star facilities than any other dialysis provider - they hire teammates who care for each other with the same passion they care for our patients. In a company with more than 50,000+ teammates it is still refreshing to know that you aren't anonymous. What you put into this company is what you will get out of it. There are so many career options and people to support you and help you get there. DaVita strives to help you retain a healthy work/life balance and offers flexibility not found in other organizations. DaVita is willing to train new employees entering the healthcare field and that is refreshing - especially for new RN graduates. Their training programs are truly top notch across the board. They celebrate wins and encourage authentic leadership at all levels. Teammates can participate in bonus plans based on performance - a great opportunity for those who are willing to put in the hard work and excel as a teammate. DaVita is truly a "village" of teammates doing their best to serve each other and improve the lives of those who suffer from chronic kidney disease. The long term strategy and vision of the company are compelling and something I am truly proud to be a part of. Most importantly, I am grateful to be surrounded by so many caring individuals who value people and share the same core values. They truly practice what they preach and demonstrate a "One for All, and All for One" attitude.
Cons
Dialysis is truly hard work at all levels. DaVita has experienced a lot of growing pains as leadership continues to find new ways to expand our business and achieve clinical excellence without losing the "small business feel". Most of the cons I have experienced relate to tightening budgets (caused in part by governmental reimbursement cuts) and increased workload for those who are strong performers. As with any large organization, you will find hiring processes take longer than they should - and shouldering the additional load during the extended hiring process can be quite difficult and even draining. Clinical budgets are mostly set by others and can be difficult to meet. At times it is hard to sort out top priorities with all the tugs and pulls of striving to be a provider, partner and employer of choice. As a healthcare provider, your DaVita experience can be swayed rapidly by nursing shortages, teammate turnover, and difficult patients. I have found this varies by geography and is cyclical in its nature. Compensation could be improved at multiple levels. Promotions aren't necessarily tied to compensation increases. New initiatives are difficult to manage as they come fast and furious - the inbox is never empty.
