Outside of IT there is limitless growth and functional cross-training and movement to other teams within the organization. You are rewarded for your meeting your goals and accomplishemnts andyou are recognized when you perform above and beyond what is required.
Cons
Within IT, there is very little opportunity to move to other teams and cross-team training. Not all managers will recognize you for what you do, but there are some who do, and those are the people that make it all worthwhile.
