Defense Information Systems Agency

Is this your company?

A great place if you have no ambition and watch football games with the branch manager on weekends. - IT Specialist (INFOSEC) GS-2210-14 Defense Information Systems Agency Employee Review

Pros

You can shape the IT software security landscape by picking a certain vendor or software for global implementation. Get through the first year without making waves or trying to change broken processes, and you have a forever job.

Cons

You must leave your motivation off the grounds of Ft. Meade. The place is run by a select few, and 90% of the positions are filled with people not qualified for their assigned role. I say assigned, because you will not get the job you were offered (for example, the titles are broad, like IT Specialist - and though you are an IDS ninja, they put you in Identity Management instead). Inter-organization transfers and promotions are decided by tenure and who you know, which results in poorly executed programs. Face time is key. It's not what you do, it's what time you punch in. There is very little integrity among the folks - even your cube neighbors take notes of your activities if you have a window-view and they want it. This makes for favoritism so sometimes stuff gets made up.
