Pros

-Training -Quality product -Worked with many fantastic people over the years

Cons

-Hours. Very poor work to life balance. If you are in management and your manager or assistant manager leaves, then you will have to work every day all day until you get someone to cover you. Unfortunately many stores are not near each other so that is not an option for many. Also you will be REQUIRED to work on days off without pay in the form of shopping competitors every other week. -Big disconnect with upper management. -Poor communication. -Recent changes to benefits and policies have hurt the morale of employees. Ex. (401k and pay) -Don’t feel like upper management thinks much of us lately. Was actually told by a regional manager, “it’s not about what you did for me 2 years ago, it’s about what you did for me last week.”

Thank you for the review. We appreciate the feedback and always strive improve where we can. I do however, disagree with may of your viewpoints and want to address them individually. Poor work/ life balance: Our retail sales employees work an average of 45 hours per week. I do not know of many career employment opportuniities that offer the same level of compensation with less requirement of your time. We have also recognized several areas that needed improvement over the last couple of years and have taken steps to improve them. We now offer regular weekends off for members of our management teams and we changed how we manage personnel shifts by providing coverage so that employees do not have to work long stretches without time off. In regards to shopping the competition, we have never required employees to do this task on their days off rather; we train our staff to do these assignments during their scheduled work week. Furthermore, these hours should be logged on your work schedule to ensure that they are not done without compensation. Changes in pay and benefits- We changed from cash in pay to pay on delivery. this is in line with the industry and designed to provide for a better customer experience. This change did not affect the amount that the employee is paid. it only delayed pay until the customer received the product purchased. furthermore the company invested over $1,000,000.00 in additional employee pay during the transition to ensure that people did not have a lapse in pay. We also changed from weekly pay to bi-weekly pay. Your frustration with this is understandable, but is coming from a selfish point of view. This decision was made for the betterment of the entire company including the payroll department. It came to our attention that they felt overworked attempting to keep up with a payroll model that was put in place when this company was founded over 40 years ago. it was not sustainable as we continue to grow and again did not change how much employees were paid. Lastly, the changes to the 401K. We did not suspend the 401K program, nor did we change how it worked. We did, however adjust the amount that the company matched. this has been something that has happened in the past and will most likely continue to flucuate in the future. In regard to you being told that what you did two years ago didn't matter: I beleive you are misquoting this to some degree, but even at face value, if you arent improving you are declining. excellence two years ago does not compensate for performance that is below standards today. We are always striving to improve our performance and it seems that you were not happy with that. We wish you the very best in your future endeavors and appreciate your concern for the wellbeing of The Denver Mattress Company. We continue to have turnover that is far below the industry standard and we are proud of the lengthly tenure of many of our store managers. Should you desire to discuss these matters further I am available at 303-566-8172.
