A fast-paced but ultimately unpleasant experience - Anonymous employee Dexterity (CA) Employee Review

Pros

It's a fast-growing, hot startup, with all of the good that implies. Lots of work to get done. Lots of potential growth. Lots of work in the lab, in the field, in front of customers. You can learn more, grow faster, gain responsibility and know-how quickly if you raise your hand. And, robots!

Cons

It's a pretty uncomfortable pressure cooker. High stress. Long hours are expected and quietly pushed by management. Work has to get done at all costs. COVID policies were really fast and loose. Some people (especially in management) are aggressive and abrasive. The CEO and some of the leads are some of the most arrogant, antagonistic people I've ever met. It's a bad feeling when you stop wanting to go to work because of your coworkers. Traction and growth are over-hyped; dig deep there.

Pros

- If you showcase talent, you will move up the company. No time-gated promotions like other companies. - Get to work on really interesting, disruptive technology. - You get to wear many hats and work on side projects that interest you. - Great meal service.

Cons

- Fully onsite positions, but there is a lack of facilities on-site. Long term a gym, more meeting rooms, better eating facilities would be better.

Pros

- Lots of opportunities for problem solving. - Great robotics platform to learn and develop (if you can get into the right work group). - Pay is decent for the industry. - Benefits are very generous.

Cons

- The environment is stressful (understandable for a startup) but hard work doesn’t feel rewarding or appreciated. Be ready to work a lot and not be recognized for it. - The team seems very reactive to problems instead of anticipating/scheduling for them, making the workload more stressful than necessary. - Teams are heavily segregated from each other making, communication of tasks and priorities difficult. - As a technician, I was rarely asked for help by the engineering staff for mechanical problem solving or design input (I have extensive experience in both). - Company culture is nonexistent. Company social events are few and far between, often feeling thrown together without much thought. Any suggestions for improving culture are snubbed or deprioritized. - Career growth plans are not taken seriously. Yearly reviews for compensation adjustments are promised by management but are not executed. - The CEO has great energy and optimism but lacks true leadership skills and is not inspiring. Those in top leadership positions who reasonably challenge the CEO are usually fired and replaced with more “agreeable” people.
