Pros

Cool Robots: The focus on innovative robotics projects offers an exciting opportunity for those passionate about the field. The potential for scale and business growth in this industry is undeniable. This is one of the industries you want to be working in. There is massive upside in terms of scale and business. Decent Runway and VCs: The company's stable financial position and support from reputable venture capitalists provide a sense of security for those considering potential equity opportunities. Free Lunch: provision of free lunch is a convenient perk that fosters a sense of community during lunch breaks.

Cons

Staffing Shortcomings: One significant drawback at Dexterity is the lack of appropriate staffing across various positions. This results in an excessive workload for domain experts who find themselves overloaded with extra work. Instead of being able to delegate lower-level tasks, they are forced to handle support and administrative duties, hindering their ability to focus on high-level engineering work. The misalignment of responsibilities negatively impacts efficiency and diminishes the impact of their specialized expertise. Inexperienced Management and Marginalization of Domain Experts: The inexperienced management team exacerbates the issues related to staffing by failing to recognize the importance of proper resource allocation. As a result, domain experts are burdened with multiple responsibilities, including tasks that should be handled by appropriately staffed positions. This marginalization undermines their potential for innovation and limits their ability to contribute effectively in their areas of expertise. Expendability and Limited Job Security: Interns and entry-level employees at Dexterity face a concerning lack of job security. Instead of being provided with a supportive and nurturing environment to grow and contribute, they are viewed as expendable resources. The resulting uncertainty surrounding their roles creates instability and hinders the growth of company domain knowledge. Poor Compensation: Dexterity falls short in terms of compensation when compared to other startups in the industry. Given the additional workload and lack of appropriate staffing, employees may feel undervalued and demotivated due to the relatively low pay scale. The company's claims about equity worth are not reflected in the present reality, making it challenging to make ends meet. Cheapness: The prevalent cheapness at Dexterity became exhausting. Cost-cutting seemed to be prioritized above all else, and it permeated the daily discussions. While being mindful of expenses is important, there is a tipping point where excessive frugality becomes counterproductive. Redoing tasks multiple times and wasting valuable time in pursuit of marginal cost savings have even damaged important business relationships.

Pros

- If you showcase talent, you will move up the company. No time-gated promotions like other companies. - Get to work on really interesting, disruptive technology. - You get to wear many hats and work on side projects that interest you. - Great meal service.

Cons

- Fully onsite positions, but there is a lack of facilities on-site. Long term a gym, more meeting rooms, better eating facilities would be better.

Pros

- Lots of opportunities for problem solving. - Great robotics platform to learn and develop (if you can get into the right work group). - Pay is decent for the industry. - Benefits are very generous.

Cons

- The environment is stressful (understandable for a startup) but hard work doesn’t feel rewarding or appreciated. Be ready to work a lot and not be recognized for it. - The team seems very reactive to problems instead of anticipating/scheduling for them, making the workload more stressful than necessary. - Teams are heavily segregated from each other making, communication of tasks and priorities difficult. - As a technician, I was rarely asked for help by the engineering staff for mechanical problem solving or design input (I have extensive experience in both). - Company culture is nonexistent. Company social events are few and far between, often feeling thrown together without much thought. Any suggestions for improving culture are snubbed or deprioritized. - Career growth plans are not taken seriously. Yearly reviews for compensation adjustments are promised by management but are not executed. - The CEO has great energy and optimism but lacks true leadership skills and is not inspiring. Those in top leadership positions who reasonably challenge the CEO are usually fired and replaced with more “agreeable” people.
