Pros

Flexible scheduling. Don't need a degree. Customer contact mostly enjoyable.

Cons

Worked over 15 years and never made it to $15 an hour despite most other businesses in the area offering that as starting pay. Required to join the union and gave them over $500 a year every year. Compensation only based on total hours worked yearly and not on merit. Everyone earns the same; those who do the minimum and those who excel. Changed the layout of the front end to force cashiers to also bag the customers' orders along with checking out the order. No additional compensation for performing two jobs. Corporate knows this is ergonomically problematic because half of their online training modules are how to now work without hurting yourself. Terrible communication between managers and employees regarding changes in policies and procedures. They used to care about how their employees looked and behaved but now they have so much trouble with hiring that as long as you're living and breathing you're hired.
