Pros
Pay raises consistently awarded on your anniversary
Cons
* Every employee is considered and treated as a common thief * Minimum wage regardless of employment history, education and skills * NOT an employee-oriented company -- far from it. Viewed and treated as slave labor. * There are no breaks allowed during shifts except a mandatory half-hour for a six-hour shift and an hour for an eight-hour shift. Then the (multi-billion dollar in sales) company doesn't have to pay you for taking a (albeit short) rest. And store managers are prohibited from leaving the premises for lunch and must be on-call during their lunch. * No perks, discounts and VERY limited (almost laughable) benefits * High expectations to be in three places at once and doing three things at the same time * No respect for family or holidays; and compensation for working holidays minimal. Most companies allow employees to get off early for Christmas and New Year's Eve and give the holidays off with pay. NOT Dollar General. Except for Christmas, you are expected to work. * Employees held accountable and written up for things outside their control: amount shoppers spend, overages/shortages in till (but you don't get to count it down and discrepancies $2 or higher get you written up with a termination on the fourth one) * Corporate is a pack of morons and daily demonstrates their stupidity * Management (district and regional) is unsupportive and pushes aside issues besieging the store * Only China government shows more disrespect and disdain for its citizens than DG does its employees * Corporate requirements tie the hands of store management in effectively accomplishing goals * High employee turnover because of corporate attitude * Did I mention every employee is treated as a common thief and subjected to a search before leaving the store Worst company I have EVER worked for in my 40 years of employment. Only an enemy would be happily referred to Dollar General for employment. NEVER a friend.
