Pros
My first job was at Dollar Tree. They pay wasn't that great, and Dollar General offered me more pay and hours. The pay isn't that bad for a beginner. You will receive payraises eventually. I received a payraise and got promoted to LEAD Sales Associate 4 months of working there, because I put in as much effort as I could. I came in when someone called out, I was even offering to work up to 60 hours in a given week. There are a lot of Dollar General Locations. You may be called in to work at another store if you're off on your own store, and you should always take it to prove your dedication. My store managers are really nice, and I like them. They know exactly what to do and isn't lazy at all.
Cons
Depending on your store location, a big problem I face is the amount of destruction that happens if it isn't recovered properly. If you tend to get a lot of customers during the day, recovering could be a hassle and it most definitely is at my store. Another con would be hours given on the schedule. I've been scheduled as little as 14 hours one week, while another, 32. It's not steady at all, at least for me. If you need it to be steady, speak to management.
