Horrible executives from RDs to CEO. - District Manager Dollar General Employee Review

Pros

Retail boot camp. Good experience for all jobs related to retail. You will do well here if you start off by realizing you don't mean anything to the company. Stick to the basics and you can have a good enough JOB. This is not a career unless you have friends in executive positions beyond the RD level.

Cons

Employees mean nothing. The company admittedly prefers the high turnover having one executive state " nothing sweeps better than a new broom". Salary means working 6 days and on call 7 days from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Do not expect to have a work-life balance. This is greed at the highest level.

Pros

The job itself is easy. The cash register, stocking (especially the totes and dry truck) and cleaning are so simple however there are certain things that make it difficult, although the work itself is not (under the right circumstances.)

Cons

They never have enough people on shift so it’s always difficult to get things done. It seems like all the managers I know from the store I worked at and the surrounding ones are all so deep into drama it made me wonder if I was back in high school. Dry truck always seems to bring far too much and the stores are so little that overstock is a huge issue here. The reason I ultimately left was due to severe mistreatment and some safety concerns I had regarding some past experiences. I am very glad I left and I would not ever go back.
