Pros

Its a good first job but Dollar Tree doesn't do enough for their employees. I only still work there because I enjoy working with everyone at my store. We worked through this covid situation together keeping the store open while others lost staff and closed. Overall, the only valuable thing I got from working at Dollar Tree were the friends I made there, which includes the cashiers, other assistants, sm, and our dm.

Cons

Dollar Tree pays minimum wage to cashiers and expects so much when we're so short staffed. Most hourly associates are highly under paid and over pressured to keep the store open at any cost. They abuse salary managers making work more hours when what they are paid for. For anyone in management there is no work life balance with Dollar Tree. Corporate expects too much for what they are willing to pay for and it results being extremely short staffed. If they want to keep any of the good workers they still have they need to do more to make them feel valued, and not just order management to give associates cards.

Pros

My coworkers are kind and honest. The work is fun when it can be and some of the customers have a good spirit. When it comes to your break, you can at least afford your snacks/meals cause they're cheap. I find it fun to look into what my customers are buying. Managers are great and modest about their greatness. Would recommend to a friend because there are worser places to work at.

Cons

Some people have been consistently calling out in my area and I am burnt out from people who don't show up when they're scheduled to. If you're a cashier, you only get a ten minute break and it's not enough time for ramen. You'll feel lucky when you get 30 minutes for covering someone else's shift. Corporate is dramatic with some of their rules, like it's considered theft if you don't pay for your food, but you require a manager to be present in order to pay for it, and managers can be busy at times. Some customers can be quite impatient whilst making the line longer with demands, especially if they don't calculate their finances whilst shopping. Some of the technology is old and when it's broken down, I am told that I am not allowed to put "out of order" signs up. Some customers don't understand that they should never pay with a $100 bill early in the morning at any store. If you want to volunteer and do extra work without a payroll, you will be told that you can get written up for it because they have to pay you. The trainings on workday are obvious that they're old by many years and have not been updated to match new policies.
