Pros

It's a job that pays money. Hours are somewhat flexible.

Cons

Only get paid biweekly. You can get paid sooner for a fee, which is downright insulting. There is no incentive to work harder as there are no benefits to you, you get paid the same. Hours are inconsistent and fluctuate wildly. You're always understaffed because having more than one cashier at a time isn't as profitable. This of course means there's not enough available manhours to ensure the store gets cleaned at all. No meaningful benefits or perks. Can be called in to replace coworkers at just about any time. While this is voluntary, it makes it hard to disconnect from work. Health and safety protocols have been lax at best, especially after an employee at another location got attacked for asking a customer to wear a mask (!). Our health and safety is clearly more important than our health and safety. Training was spotty/inadequate. Constant infighting. SM/ASMs are brutally overworked for relatively low pay. You can more or less figure out how much money the company is making off you every day and hoo boy are they taking you for a ride. Customers suck. Most are nice and polite, but it only takes one or two bad ones to ruin your day and you're guaranteed several more than that. Company policies are clearly designed by people who have never actually worked a register before. No union representation. No holiday pay. This job is downright insulting. The ads all say you're joing a family or you'll grow with Dollar Tree. They will grow off your blood, sweat and tears. All you'll get is a dysfunctional family.

Pros

My coworkers are kind and honest. The work is fun when it can be and some of the customers have a good spirit. When it comes to your break, you can at least afford your snacks/meals cause they're cheap. I find it fun to look into what my customers are buying. Managers are great and modest about their greatness. Would recommend to a friend because there are worser places to work at.

Cons

Some people have been consistently calling out in my area and I am burnt out from people who don't show up when they're scheduled to. If you're a cashier, you only get a ten minute break and it's not enough time for ramen. You'll feel lucky when you get 30 minutes for covering someone else's shift. Corporate is dramatic with some of their rules, like it's considered theft if you don't pay for your food, but you require a manager to be present in order to pay for it, and managers can be busy at times. Some customers can be quite impatient whilst making the line longer with demands, especially if they don't calculate their finances whilst shopping. Some of the technology is old and when it's broken down, I am told that I am not allowed to put "out of order" signs up. Some customers don't understand that they should never pay with a $100 bill early in the morning at any store. If you want to volunteer and do extra work without a payroll, you will be told that you can get written up for it because they have to pay you. The trainings on workday are obvious that they're old by many years and have not been updated to match new policies.
