Pros
The DM at my location was the best boss I’ve ever had in my entire life and I’ve worked in at least four different states. Gay friendly workplace!! Inclusive and diverse company!! Salary pay is decent. You don’t have a boss hovering over you day to day, Insurance, 401k benefits, and other benefits are decent. You make your own schedule (as long as you keep dependable employees). You are in control of hiring your own employees which means you have the ability to maintain a well functioning store with happy employees as long as you are careful who you hire to be on your team. Once a good team is established and you get your store in order it has the capability of flowing smoothly but you must stay on top of it all.
Cons
The stock!!! The amount of stock the dollar tree gets in weekly is insane compared to the amount of employees you have and the number of hours you are permitted to distribute amongst said employees. It is near impossible to keep the stockroom clean and the freight on the shelves where it needs to be. You do not order stock it is just sent and it’s always always always too much. Long hours daily and minimum 48-70 hour work weeks as well as extreme dedication to your store and your employees is critical for success. If your assistant manager calls in it’s on you to cover the shift. Your breaks are rarely full amount of time they should be and non existent majority of the time and lunch is something of the past don’t expect one unless your DM is in town for the monthly visit and is awesome like mine was. Salary is decent but is on the low end compared to other retail establishments. You are responsible and personally held accountable for literally every aspect of the store which can be exhausting although if your team is solid and does their part this will be less of a stress. Finding dependable dedicated employees is difficult bc the max pay you can offer is extremely less than other similar establishments so you really have to provide a wonderful work environment for them all.
